The digital legal application “Diathiki.Online”, created by lawyers Yannis Christodoulou and Manos Technitis in collaboration with the award-winning company Dingo Phygital Agency and available at https://diathiki.online/, won a gold award at the Business Law Awards.
The aim of the application is to create the “digital twin” of the process of creating a conventional private last will and testament, through the use of the internet and new technologies, offering even more security, validity and confidentiality. At the same time, it is one of the first applications of legal tech in Greece.
By using the application everyone can make their last will and testament easily, validly and with secrecy wherever they are, whatever the time, using their computer, mobile phone or tablet.
The app in a very simple and understandable way guides the user step-by-step on how to make a will according to the law, what information it should contain, and gives instructions on how to send it safely for safekeeping.
At the same time, the application includes an easy and short identification process for the user – testator, in order to prove that they are indeed who they say they are, as well as that they are in their right mind at the time of writing the will. This material is kept with the will in order to be produced – if required – in court, so as to ensure that it is not challenged by someone with conflicting interests.
In addition, the testator can again use the application to revoke or amend his will at any time.
More specifically, the process of drafting a will through “Diathiki.Online” consists of six steps:
– Registration
– The first step is to make a will on paper according to detailed step-by-step instructions.
– Sealing of the file
– Identification of the user – testator
– Informing the person concerned
– Dispatch and storage of the file
Wills, together with their accompanying material, are sent and kept at the Hellenic Institute of Last Wills and Testaments and then unsealed after the testator’s death and published in court with all legal requirements.
By using the “Diathiki.Online” application, the testator can be sure that he can draw up his will with absolute secrecy and the certainty that it will not be “lost” or altered by third parties.
